IGIA-ANLA Partnership
The IGIA is pleased to partner with the American Nursery and Landscape Association (ANLA) on various national issues that are critical to our industry. The ANLA has an outstanding governmental affairs staff that purpose, monitor and develop legislation that impact our members businesses each and every day.
The IGIA is a proactive partner with the ANLA, establishing a grass roots effort on issues such as immigration and labor reform, plant and pest disease problems and other regulatory issues.
In April 2004, the IGIA board of directors contributed $25,000 to the ANLA Beacon Fund, which is a political education fund is used to raise the awareness of Congress and the Executive Branch on critical industry needs. Practically, the Beacon Fund is the "victory fund" to enact labor reform legislation. While a positive outcome is in no way guaranteed, the Beacon fund has allowed the industry to take significant steps forward in fighting for available and affordable labor. In July 2005, the IGIA contributed another $25,000 to the fund.
The IGIA is also a founding participant in the ANLA Lighthouse Program. The Lighthouse Program is the nursery and landscape industry's national grassroots program. This new program is a partnership between state and regional nursery/landscape associations and ANLA to increase the industry's impact on Congress and the federal government by informing green industry businesses on emerging federal legislation and national issues.
In addition, the IGIA has contributed over $100,000 to HRI, ANLA’s Horticultural Research Institute. HRI was established in 1963 as the research division of the American Nursery & Landscape Association (ANLA). From the start, HRI sought to add an important new dimension to ANLA's near century of steadfast commitments to the development of the nursery and landscape industry.
